This is Goliath

We would like to make a pilgrimage on the Compostela Way, and I contacted the Foundation David Parou Saint-Jacques for more information, presenting Lyam to them via the site, and explaining that we’d love him to be able to make the trip on a little donkey.

Thank  you to the donors and the team of the Crédit Agricole of Céret for having contributed this year to the participation of certain costs for Lyam.

This help is obviously precious,  the participation of the greatest number of donors  makes all the difference,  and help to pay thérapies and materials no refunded .

Listen to the earth, which is dying, complaining. We can’t just stay
with our arms crossed, and do nothing.

However, we’re not big polluters. Before Lyam’s birth we lived for 3
years in an old windmill, without electricity, and I have fantastic
memories of that time. We followed the rhythm of nature, getting up
with the sun and going to bed at darkness. We worked our vegetable
patch and washed ourselves in the river throughout the year. Living
in this way makes you stronger, and more resistant. We had to leave
this enchanted place because the owners wanted it back for their son…

After a few months, Lyam was born, suffering the accident you know
about. For now, we are renting a little gîte, but our dream is to
build an eco-hamlet and alternative school, with like-minded people concerned with the fate
of our good old planet and, finally, with their own fate. We have in
mind a pretty little village just by the Spanish border, and we
already have 3 French Montessori teachers and 1 Steiner teacher,a nature guide ,a baker and a yoga teacher: if
you’re a teacher, or others …………….and you’re interested in our project, please do get
in touch. And if you know about building in straw / wood and other
natural materials, renewable energy etc, it would be good to add to
our knowledge. We’d also welcome any ideas you may have on grants /
subsidies etc, to help us part-finance the project. All advice,
volunteers and help would be gratefully received ,contact us.

I’m going to take a little time to share with you our experience at Fonsorbes (near Toulouse), where we were given a warm welcome by Jacqueline and the staff of the Association Dominique.

On the 1st day, we met the therapists of the Devenir Institute, and gave them Lyam’s detailed history.Then we did lots of different exercises so that they could evaluate our little ray of sunshine’s tactile skills, hearing/comprehension, vision, mobility, language, manual aptitude etc.
The 2nd day, we discussed the different aspects of the brain, and how they function (primary reflexes,  etc).
On the 3rd day, the therapists gave us a made-to-measure programme for Lyam, based on the results from the 1st day’s evaluation, and showed us how to do the exercises with him.
We now have a 6-month programme to follow before the next evaluation on 1-2 April 2010, consisting of 3 sessions a day, each session lasting 3/4 of an hour.
There are exercises to help his co-ordination and develop his bilateral movements for crawling, walking on 4 limbs, and finally walking, exercises to reduce his spasticity and inhibit his primary reflexes, via different massages of his ankles and hands, and, as time passes, reading exercises and Maria Montessori’s tactile letters to help him understand more abstract concepts.
We love this approach, which stems from the belief that the brain is ‘magic’ and has plasticity, so that even if there are lesions it’s possible to actively stimulate the ‘relay’ zones, which can then transmit all the correct information.
So, the prospect of lots of work for the 3 of us over the next 6 months! We need to organise ourselves well to manage these 3 sessions alongside our already full timetable with Lyam, and in parallel with sessions of physio, ergo, psychomotricity, orthoepy and osteopathy, but we want to do the best for him. With your support, love and encouragement, we’ll do it, with joy.

Here are a few fresh details, we begin to receive some  donations and beautiful messages, it is heart-warming ……… is super nice in this world a bit egocentric ……. …. to see that there is solidarity.
We must organize theme days to get money for the association, so  we  have to think  about  what we will put in place. We need volunteers to help us to organize it , your brilliant ideas …… and your talents.

HELLO 01 / 10 / 2009

With the help of the Dominique Association, Lyam is to undertake 3 days of multisensory therapy with the Devenir Institute in the US, from 7-9 October.
The team will make a very detailed assessment of Lyam’s abilities and do exercises with him for several hours every day. Before we leave, they will do their final evaluation and give us an individual exercise program to follow with him over the next 4-6 months.

We’ll give you more details on all this when we get back: don’t forget though that your donations are invaluable, and that they’ll help us finance these therapies.
